As long as gambling odds have been around there have been punters who study them. Over the course of history there have been a countless number of gamblers that have found themselves with an edge over the house by figuring out a fool proof system. In the 90s a pair of golf gamblers figured out that the odds on a hole in one was a sure fire bet to win big if you could stake the needed cash. Next British horse racing fans found a system to beat the odds of many bookies also. There is always an edge to be found if you keep your eyes open.
